Health Education- Tobacco Control Program |
The Kendall County Health Department’s Tobacco
Control Program is funded through the Tobacco Settlement Agreement. Through the Tobacco Settlement Illinois will recieve $9.1 billion over the next 25 years. The Illinois Department
of Public Health disperses a part of this money to local Health Departments
for tobacco education and prevention through a grant called “Illinois
Tobacco-Free Communities”. The goals of the Illinois Tobacco-Free Communities grants are to:
- Provide education
to the community, through a variety of sources on the dangers of environmental
tobacco smoke.
- Promote quitting
and prevention among youth and adults.
- Work toward
updating local ordinances related to tobacco.
|
In addition to providing smoking cessation classes to the public and various types of tobacco prevention education, Health Education works with the Environmental Health Unit to enforce the Smoke-Free Illinois Act. |
